The WERA Mission
The mission of the Washington Educational Research Association (WERA) is to improve the professional practice of educators engaged in:
  • assessing student performance,
  • evaluating programs,
  • conducting and applying educational research, and
  • using data to inform instructional decisions.

WERA Services
WERA provides:

  • professional development through conferences, publications and seminars,
  • forums to explore thoughtful approaches and a variety of views and issues in education,
  • consultation and advice to influence educational policy regarding instruction, assessment, evaluation, and research.

WERA Board Goals for 2010-2011

  • Plan and implement the transition to a new Executive Secretary to ensure WERA high standards and programs are maintained.
  • Increase staff development offerings for WERA members
  • Offer a program for the annual state assessment conference that attracts more than 600 individuals to attend
  • Anticipate emerging issues that will impact WERA’s members and provide training and support around those issues
  • Review WERA’s support efforts and make improvements as needed
  • Create a longitudinal data base around WERA’s key components and monitor these components annually for possible program adjustments
  • Establish a target end of year fund balance to ensure WERA’s financial security
  • Implement the recommendations of the 2009 Audit Committee
